Rebuttal
HERE IS A REFUTATION BY THE AUTHORITY OF OGU/BOLO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA
The Chairman Caretaker Committee of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area Rt. Hon. Evans Bipi, DSSRS, JP has been inundated with an unsavory innuendo emanating from a meeting by some Chiefs and politicians of Ogu wherein they purportedly passed a vote of confidence on the dissolved executives of the Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs.
Ordinarily the Local Government Council would have ignored this charade in order not to dignify them with a respond but for the sake of the unsuspecting public who they intend to hoodwink and mislead we decided to respond to also offer clarification on the matter.
The purported communiqué issued at the said meeting which includes Senator George Sekibo, Chief Boma Iyaye and other politicians of the area is a confirmation of the politicization of the Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs by the Chief Adokiye Ochemiebia Chuku led former executives to serve the interest of their political godfather.
To demonstrate their utter disregard and disdain for the Ogu/Bolo Caretaker Chairman, the dissolved executives of the Council of Chiefs have consistently shunned official functions of the Local Government Council including a Townhall meeting meant for the continued peace and development of the area.
For the avoidance of doubt, the politicization of the leadership of the traditional body was the cause of the disagreement, disharmony and sharp division amongst the former Executives of the Council of Chiefs.
This prompted the Ogu/Bolo Council Boss Rt. Hon. Evans Bipi to wade in by dissolving the executives and constituting a 5-man interim administration to pilot the affairs of the Council in accordance with its constitution pending the conduct of an election.
The intervention of the Caretaker Chairman which was widely applauded was to preserve the neutrality and credibility of the Ogu traditional institution, while also maintaining the prevailing peace, harmony, and social cohesion in the area.
Moreover, the appointment of a Caretaker Executives of the Council of Chiefs is not a new practice in Ogu/Bolo as the immediate past Council Chairman did a similar thing for his political convenience given the circumstances at the time while he held sway.
In the light of the foregoing, the Chairman Caretaker Committee of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area Rt. Hon. Evans Bipi therefore calls on security agencies and the general public to disregard and discountenance the statement by the said Chiefs and politicians of Ogu purporting to have passed a vote of confidence on the dissolved executives of the Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs.
Rt. Hon. Evans Bipi has also asked the Chief Adokiye Ochemiebia Chuku led former executives of the Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs to hand over all documents and property in their possession to the newly constituted Caretaker Executive of the body led by Chief Frank Barasimeye Opumbire.
However, in the interest of continued peace and harmony of Ogu Kingdom, voices of reasoning including the CDC, Elders, Executives of Youth and Woman Groups have approached the open-minded Caretaker Chairman of Ogu/Bolo on the matter to find a way out.
Signed:
Emeka Idika Kalu,
Chief Press Secretary,
Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area,
