The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Okrika local government area, Hon Princess Ibiene Ogan says the health care of the people occupies a prominent place in her administration.
She stated this during the flag off of the first phase of Maternal and Child Health Week organised by the Rivers State Government at Island Maternity, Fiberesima in the local government area.
The Maternal and Child Heàlth Week is celebrated twice every year and organized by the Rivers State Government, to give free medical services to the people in the different local government areas.
Hon Ogan called on the Okrikan to make good use of the opportunity offered by the state government, pointing out that several medical issues would be offered for free during the period.
According to her, "The services are for everyone, women, men, pregnant mothers, women of child-bearing age, and children. I call on every one of us to make ourselves available and utilize this free opportunity provided for us by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
"As we say, health is wealth, so I expect us to mobilise our people for this very important programme. The medical personnel will be on the ground to attend to everybody. Let us be patient when we get there and be orderly so that the process will be quick."
She commended the Sekibo family for renovating the Island Maternity, which is one of the oldest, not just in Okrika but in the state.
The CTC boss noted that the health facility represents fond memories for her as it is where her mother was born decades ago, likewise several other prominent Rivers sons and daughters.
She stressed that the Island Maternity has continued to offer services to the people of Okrika, in addition to those doing business in the area.
Hon Ogan disclosed that the CTC members will monitor the exercise to ensure that everything goes well and intervene where there are challenges.
